The game plays as a multi-sport competition called the “Epyx Games” because there was no official license with the International Olympics Committee. Up to 8 players can choose a country to represent and take turns competing in selected events to win medals. World records where savable to the game disk. Certain ports allowed you to compete in the original eight Summer Games events, or play all 16 in a marathon session, but you have to own the original Summer Games for this to work.

The game allows the player to compete in all of the events sequentially, compete in some events, choose just one event, or practice an event. This version also features both the opening and closing ceremonies, where the closing ceremonies features a “fan man”, the flame extinguishing as the sky goes dark, a blimp ing by and some fireworks. Certain ports also allow for participants to compete in events from the original Summer Games events, but they had to have the original Summer Games diskette for this to happen.
